Job Summary Mechanical Interactive Carpenter will work under the supervision of the Interactive Manager. This position is primarily responsible for construction and handling of Interactive products. Mechanical Interactive Carpenter must have a high level of professionalism, a strong organizational background, excellent communication / interpersonal skills, the ability to multi- task while maintaining attention to detail. The Interactive development team at Maltbie is a grass roots team that develops and fabricates mechanical/electronic interactive exhibits for experiential environments. Many of these exhibits include motion, electronically activated components and various methods of operation. This position would be a key role in the construction of exhibits from initial prototypes to completed exhibits and provides support for the installation of exhibitions in the museum environments when applicable. Mechanical Interactive Carpenter skills include a broad range of interactive development/construction capabilities with high level skills in prototyping, model making and self-motivation. The position requires both collaborative work within project teams, supporting shop staff as well as independent work with minimum supervision. Job Specifications & Requirements: Relevant Education/Experience • 2 years’ experience in using a wide variety of tools and equipment • Thorough knowledge, and interested in, basic carpentry materials and methods, how things are built. Construction, prototyping, model making, machining, metalworking, metal fabrication and finish carpentry. Familiar with basic mechanical components. • Good written and verbal communication skills • Strong organizational skills. Detail oriented a must. • Must be able to understand complex work instructions. • Demonstrated ability to work from and produce assembly sketches and drawings • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with variety of staff across the organization. • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage one’s time. • Fast-paced deadline driven environment performing construction related duties • High physical activity: lifting, bending, stretching and must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. • Familiar with CAD & CAM software: AutoCAD, Rhino, Aspire, WoodWOP (not required) • Familiar with basic computer software: Word, Excel, Outlook etc. ((not required)
