Come meet author Leni Smith Covington and illustrator Taylor B. Randolph and have them sign your own copy of "The Shoemaker and the Elves"! Charlottesville Waldorf School is very proud to welcome Leni Smith Covington and Taylor B. Randolph back to our campus on Saturday, May 22, for a meet-and-greet and book signing of their new retelling of the classic tale "The Shoemaker and the Elves". Already have a copy? Bring it along! Still need to get the book? You can purchase it on-site! And, if you don't happen to have a child, grandchild, niece, or nephew to purchase this book for, the author and illustrator are organizing a campaign to donate copies to students at Clark School, here in Charlottesville and they welcome your participation! THE SHOEMAKER AND THE ELVES, a retelling of the Brothers Grimms' classic fairy tale, conveys the central message of the story in a manner which young children can easily grasp. The shoemaker and his wife are models of hard work and persistence. It is truly a healing story, full of joy, gratitude, and curiosity, while also offering a powerful tool to build up literacy. Woven into a tapestry of illustrations by a Virginia artist, the story comes to life in an enchanting tale with poignant lessons, especially in today's world. Leni Smith Covington has been both a Waldorf teacher and a public school teacher for 30-plus years. She has taught Infant Education through grade 5 as a classroom teacher, both in-class and homebound, and as a teacher of special-education, reading -resource, and English-language learners. She founded two private Waldorf preschools and has mentored Waldorf teachers in Xian, China, and Raleigh, North Carolina. She has two sons, and five grandchildren whom she loves reading aloud to. Taylor B. Randolph worked as a medical and natural science illustrator in Germany and the United States for 10 years. She subsequently worked as a substitute teacher at the Charlottesville Waldorf School in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she currently resides with her husband.
