MALDEN, MA – Malden Public Schools Superintendent John Oteri has released a statement following the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd on Memorial Day 2020.
In the statement, Oteri said while the conviction brings a sense of relief and closure, systemic racism persists and important conversations must continue.
"Here in Malden Public Schools, we will keep our focus on diversity, equity and inclusivity as we work to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for each and every student we serve," Oteri said in the statement. "Our schools and classrooms are places where students feel safe and respected, respect others and cherish diversity."
