CT Coronavirus Infection Rates, Hospitalizations: Under Control?

CONNECTICUT — On the one-year anniversary of the state's highest single day of coronavirus-related hospitalizations— 1,972 residents were hospitalized with the virus on Apr. 22, 2020 — the state Department of Public Health announced eight more admissions. That brings the number of those hospitalized with COVID-19 in Connecticut to (a relatively small) 515. Although the number of hospitalized cases of coronavirus began to climb again the third week in March after a tremendous drop-off in the beginning of the year, numbers have been in check since the beginning of April. The state's infection rate has also seen an improvement with an average of 26.2 daily positive cases per 100,000 population between April 4 and 17. The number is a decrease from more than 30 in the previous two-week period. An additional 737 cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Wednesday in the state, bringing that total to 333,732. With 41,344 tests reported, the daily positivity rate now sits at 1.78 percent, the lowest it has been since mid-February. Coronavirus-associated deaths across the state rose by 12 on Wednesday. The COVID-19 death toll in Connecticut now stands at 8,039.
