DARIEN, CT — A 53-year-old Bronx, New York, woman was arrested on charges of criminal impersonation and second-degree forgery last week after Darien police said she tried to withdraw $2,300 from a bank account that is not hers.
Banetta Grant was arrested about 4:30 p.m. on April 14 following the attempted fraudulent transaction at a TD Bank on the Post Road in Darien, according to police.
"The bank employee became suspicious because the owner of the account was a male name, and the suspect was a female," Darien Police Sgt. James Palmieri said in a statement. "When asked, the suspect couldn't answer basic challenge questions when asked. Further, the ID provided had the suspect's picture with the account holder's name on it."
Grant left the bank before police arrived, but employees were able to give officers a description of her vehicle, and she was stopped at the entrance to exit 13 southbound on Interstate 95.
Officers took Grant into custody, processed her arrest, and released her on a written promise to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 14.
