Boy, 4, In Critical Condition After Hit By Marin Co. DUI Suspect

NOVATO, CA — A 75-year-old Novato man was arrested for alleged impaired-driving after his vehicle struck and hurt a father and critically injured his 4-year-old son, both in a crosswalk Wednesday evening in Novato, according to authorities. The child was taken to Marin General Hospital and later airlifted to an Oakland children's hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, the Novato Police Department said today. The driver, Edward Cox, was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for suspicion of felony driving while under the influence, police said. Police and the Novato Fire Protection District were called to the collision at 8:30 p.m. on Alameda Del Prado near the Posada Del Sol intersection, where the two pedestrians — the 4-year-old and his father, 27, — apparently were in a crosswalk when struck by a sedan traveling south on Alameda Del Prado, the department said. The father was taken to Marin General Hospital with major injuries, deemed non-life-threatening, officials said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their family during this difficult time," the department said, adding its thanks to locals who stopped at the scene to assist the victims and provide information to responding officers. The roadway was closed for several hours as the Novato PD's Major Collision Investigation Team processed the scene.
