PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police detective will be fired after he was charged with simple assault, making terroristic threats, and more for allegedly pulling a gun on two people and threatening to shoot one while off duty, police said. Detective Robert Redanauer was arrested Tuesday by the Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs Division following an IAD investigation of an assault that occurred on Dec. 27, 2020. During an off-duty verbal altercation on Dec. 27, 2020, Redanauer grabbed a silver, semi-automatic handgun from a dresser and pointed the handgun at two complainants while threatening to shoot one of the complainants, police said. That person was able to go downstairs, exit the home, and call 911. The other person retreated into a bedroom, police said. The person who Redanauer pointed the gun at saw Redanauer exit the home and drive away a short time later. On Jan. 5, the investigation was sent to the District Attorney's Office for review of possible criminal charges. On April 13, an affidavit of probable cause for arrest warrant was issued. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office charged Redanauer with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possessing instruments of crime, and terroristic threats. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has suspended Redanauer for 30 days with the intent to dismiss at the end of the 30 days. "In order for police officers to effectively do their jobs, it is imperative that they are held to a higher standard – both on and off-duty," Outlaw said. "The charges filed against Detective Redanauer are serious in nature, and represent intolerable behavior. When officers behave in a way that does not honor their oath to protect others from harm, and in fact, create harm, it is made clear that the individual has no place within our ranks and must be removed."
