Position Overview: A Journey-level Carpenter is responsible for safely building, remodeling, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, and other items using different types of materials including wood, steel and concrete. Essential Functions: • Responsible for your own safety and the safety of others working around you. • Participate in job site safety meetings and discussions • Safely operate construction tools and equipment • Complete safety pre-task plans • Read and interpret building plans, drawings, and specifications • Lead small teams and direct work of carpenters, apprentice carpenters and carpenter helpers • Mentor and train carpenters • Perform wood and metal stud framing • Perform interior finish carpentry • Install doors, hardware, windows, siding, cabinets, fixtures, and millwork • Perform demolition • Repair building envelopes • Install/Replace flashings • Install/apply waterproofing materials • Perform additional assignments as requested by the Project Manager or Site Supervisor Job Scope: Work direction is provided, but is provided with little oversight, follows established practices and procedures, regarding building practices and safety procedures. May lead small teams. Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibility, however the incumbent may lead or direct the work of small teams. Employees receive general instructions from a supervisor who reviews work upon completion for safe practices, quality and timeliness. Interpersonal Contacts: Contacts are normally made with others both inside and outside the organization. Contacts within the company are made with own supervisor and co-workers on the job site. Contacts made outside the company are with generally with non-customers (subcontractors, vendors, etc.) Qualifications/Skills: • Ability to follow OR-OSHA and Mission Building safety practices • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial construction processes and techniques • Advanced ability to read and interpret building plans/drawings/specifications • Detail-oriented with an analytical approach to solving problems • Advanced experience using construction hand and power tools • Ability to collaborate and be proactive toward solving problems • Ability to put work product in place in a timely and effective manner • Basic knowledge of spoken and written English, sufficient to understand instructions Experience/Education/Training: • Commercial construction safety knowledge / training • 4+ Years of carpentry experience in varied disciplines • High School Diploma or GED • Apprenticeship program a plus Physical Activities: Key: Rarely (0-20%), Occasionally (21-50%), Frequently (51-80%), and Continuously (81+%) • Continuous standing, walking (frequently on uneven surfaces) • Frequently bending/stooping • Rarely crawling • Frequent repetitive motion of hands/wrists • Occasional kneeling • Occasional climbing • Continuous grasping • Frequently push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Work Environment: This position generally requires 8 hours a day. The workweek is Monday-Friday and occasionally on weekends/nights depending on the project. This position requires work in the outdoors in all types of weather. It requires walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods, at times in confined spaces. Work occurs on ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations. Employees may be exposed to dust, fumes, noise and unpleasant variation in temperature.
