About The Candidate Hailie Kim moved to Sunnyside from Seoul, South Korea with her parents just in time to start first grade at P.S 150, and is a proud product of the public school system. Throughout her life, her mother worked as a nail technician and until recently her father owned a small beauty supply store in Queens that has had to close because of COVID 19. Growing up in a working class, immigrant family, she has seen the neighborhood change, with friends and family pushed out by the rising tide of rents, development, and gentrification. Currently, she is an adjunct professor in English Literature at Hunter College, proud union member of PSC-CUNY, and also translates texts from Russian to English. Key platform issues include fully funded universal 3-k, pre-k, and after school programs, universal rent control in NYC, a fully funded public option for NYC healthcare, a green New Deal, standing up to developers, and making sure millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share in taxes. Job Details Temporary $20 an hour + transportation stipend Canvasser Job Description Direct voter contact is a critical element of successful campaigns. The position entails door to door canvassing and campaign work for a competitive City Council race seeking staff to work in Sunnyside, Queens engaging voters on the upcoming Democratic Party primary election. There is the chance to get involved in other aspects of the campaign if you are interested as well. This is an entry level campaign position. Prior experience is appreciated, but we will train passionate newcomers.
