POSITION SUMMARY: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the service/repair of a range of construction equipment – excavators, dozers, backhoes, graders, loaders, haul trucks, etc. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will conduct, maintain, test and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and components. This position will also provide skilled mechanical and electrical support to all areas of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will have the experience and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for driving to different sites daily. • Perform all levels of repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services on heavy equipment. • Troubleshoot, upkeep, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical heavy equipment so that equipment is kept in operational condition. • Maintain and repair light, medium, and heavy equipment so that down time is minimized, and equipment is available when needed. • Performs inspections, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and heavy equipment. • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that work meets company/manufacturers’ specifications. • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times. • Maintain and organize company supplies and tools. • Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • High school diploma or GED (Required). • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Required). LICENSE: • Must have a valid unexpired driver’s license. • Must have a clean driving record. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be able to physically lift and carry 50lbs. • Must be able to climb on, off, and under various pieces of equipment, and physically access all parts of equipment to perform job requirements. • Knowledgeable in electrical components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes. • Dependability – Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, and meets attendance/punctuality requirements. • Time Management – Ability to organize and plan how to use one’s time effectively and efficiently. • Attention to Detail – Thoroughness in accomplishing tasks, being careful about details. • Communication – Communicates well both verbally and in writing in order to convey information effectively and efficiently, shares information and ideas with others and has good listening skills. • Integrity/Ethics – Deals with others in a straightforward, respectful, ethical and honest manner, is accountable for actions, maintains confidentiality and supports company values. • Drive for Result – Targets and achieves results in a consistent manner, sets challenging goals, prioritizes tasks, overcomes obstacles, pushes self and others for results, accepts accountability. • Safety Focus – Adheres to all workplace and trade safety laws, regulations, standards and practices.
