We process 100% of the metal, glass and plastic, and 50% of the paper, collected by the New York City Sanitation Department throughout the five boroughs of the city. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Inspects materials and sorts items or materials into piles or places in bins or barrels according to type, size, condition, coloring, marking, or other characteristics. - Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits. - Operate machinery used in the production process or assist equipment operators. - Load and unload items from machines, conveyor and conveyances. - Ability to work both shifts. - Moves reusable materials to production department or storage. - Separates metal particles from waste. - Cleaning which includes; sweeping and shoveling residual waste from process. - Removes waste materials from conveyor. - Other duties may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) - One year minimum experience in a heavy industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred) DESCRIPTION: - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms. - The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. - The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. - The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. - Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. - While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; and outside weather conditions. - The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. - The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
