He is an award-winning marketing and public relations professional. He has received numerous accolades, including the highly coveted MAXI Award (International Council of Shopping Centers) as well as several Addy Awards from the American Advertising Federation. Barrera is a Certified Business Etiquette Professional, certified by the Emily Post Institute and a Certified Marketing Director (CMD), a designation he received in 2003 by the International Council of Shopping Centers. He has spent over 20 years righting the marketing wrongs in the retail and shopping center industries. His resume reads like a “who’s who” list and includes marketing management positions with retail industry giants including General Growth Properties, Simon Property Group, and CBL Properties as well as affiliations with esteemed marketing organizations including the International Council of Shopping Centers, the American Marketing Association and the Public Relations Society of America. Barrera is active in national, regional, and local business and industry-related organizations including the American Advertising Federation, where he served as President of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter and the Public Relations Society of America. Locally, he is a member of the Laredo Little Theatre Board of Directors and has been a Laredo Chamber volunteer for over 20 years; serving in various capacities including a member of the Board of Directors.
