MALDEN, MA – Malden's Police Chief has spoken out following the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, saying the department will continue to listen to residents' concerns. Wednesday afternoon, Police Chief Kevin Molis posted a video to the department's Facebook page sharing his thoughts following the conviction. "To those who suffer deep pain, suffering and loss, the word justice will always have an emptiness because of the void that cannot ever be filled by our laws and by our courts," he said. Since Floyd's death on Memorial Day 2020, Molis said the Malden Police Department has met with Malden residents to discuss their concerns. "We continue to protect and serve you, and we will continue to hear you and to listen to you," he said. "This is not only manifested in response to your 911 calls for service, but in our sincere hope and willingness to continue to engage in constructive, meaningful, and healing dialogue that will continue to unite us as a community."
