Description
KINGS PARK, NY — The stretch of Nissequogue River near Nissequogue River State Park Marina in Kings Park is safe for recreation again, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) announced Tuesday.
A health advisory was put out April 14 after sewage discharged into the river due to a damaged manhole, according to the department. Repairs were made, and the discharged was treated and stopped.
The Kings Park sewage treatment plant is running under normal conditions, and samples from the plant effluent are below the NYSDEC-allowed discharge limits. Surface water samples from the Nissequogue River show the area is OK for recreation, health officials said.
