Huntington Woman Honored For Expertise In Renewable Energy

HUNTINGTON, NY — Jessica Price, a Huntington resident, was recently awarded the 2021 Distinguished Service Award by the North American Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE-NA), according to a news release. Price is the renewable energy strategy lead for The Nature Conservancy, a New York City-based nonprofit. She is also the lead author of the recent Long Island Solar Roadmap – a report and online map that shows how Long Island could generate more power than the region uses on an annual basis without harming natural spaces, parks, or prime farmland. The award Price will receive recognizes those who have contributed exceptionally to IALE-NA. Exceptional service represents a contribution to IALE-NA in terms of time, energy and dedication that advanced the association's mission. Price has been providing service to IALE-NA since being a student representative on theexecutive committee. She served as treasurer for two terms, from 2016 to 2020. She volunteeredto take on an additional year in the role as outgoing treasurer in 2020-2021 to provide adviceand guidance to the new treasurer. She helped transition the association's financial accounts into one central account and handled the complexities on the financial side of transitioning from US-IALE to IALE-NA. Her strong organization of the books helped ensure a seamless transition to her successor. In her current role, Price applies both natural and social science expertise to develop strategiesthat address large-scale challenges affecting both people and nature. This includes sustainablerenewable energy deployment, building community resilience to climate change, and usingnature-based approaches to improve the health of people and ecosystems in urban landscapes. She earned a PhD and MSc at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a bachelor's degree at Lake Forest College. Price is due to be the featured speaker at the Long Island Clean Energy task Force's Earth Day Meeting on Friday. The event is hosted by the Sustainability Institute at Molloy College and is free.
