Learn how to create unique artwork on real egg shells in the traditional batik method. 4-Hour Workshop Date: Saturday, June 12, 2021 Time: 10am-2pm Description: Learn how to create unique artwork on real egg shells in the traditional batik method. Participants learn how to design, wax, dye and finish their own Psyanka egg. They will also learn the proper use of tools and techniques, as well as cultural history including the meaning of the different colors and symbols. Students will leave with one completed egg and the skills and tools to complete more on their own. No prior art skill needed. Students must be 18 or accompanied by parent. Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops. Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks. About the Artist Marilan is a seasoned Ukrainian Egg Artist who, for more than 40 years, has offered demonstrations, workshops and classes in the art of Pysanky (creating intricate colorful designs through a process of layering wax and dyes) at numerous community centers, libraries, nursing homes as well as CCAC and Pitt’s leisure learning programs. Of Ukrainian decent, she is a third generation “psyanky” artist. Her passion is to introduce the art form and its rich history to new audiences throughout the Pittsburgh region.
