Description
I am a business owner. I pay more money (higher wages) so that I attract the best people for the job. Any business owner knows you need to pay if you want good people.
In most communities, the peace officers salary is less than the average income of the community that they serve.
Pay more and expect more. I am never one for raising taxes but here is an example. Raise property taxes 1% and use that money to attract better candidates and more people to serve in law enforcement. Use that money to provide more training and more mental health services to aid police.
This is one life long democrat who believes that the police deserve more community support. Every police agency in the nation is hiring because there is a shortage of personnel in law enforcement. With a shortage of personnel, agencies have no choice but to accept any and all applications rather than selecting the best applicants.
You get what you pay for. If you want better law enforcement, we need to find a way to pay for better law enforcement. The same is true for teachers. There is a teacher shortage because we don't pay teachers enough.
Why would good people go into teaching or law enforcement to make 60 or 70k per year when they can earn much more than that in the private sector?
