RIVERSIDE, IL — A Broadview man accused of drunken driving in Riverside dropped the names of a politician and a purported Chicago police officer in his attempt to avoid being arrested, police said. Ahkeen Henderson, 45, was arrested on charges of DUI, among others, about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. An officer saw Henderson run a red light at Ogden Avenue and Gage Road, going 51 mph in a 30 mph zone and weaving over lane markers, according to a Riverside news release. When he was stopped, Henderson asked an officer if he could call the mayor of Broadview, so the mayor could vouch for him not to be arrested, the release said. When that did not work, he asked the officer to call his brother-in-law, a Chicago police officer, police said. The officer refused the requests. Henderson then failed roadside sobriety tests, according to the release. While checking on Henderson's driver's license, police found it was revoked for DUI convictions in 2014 and 2018 and numerous offenses for driving on a revoked license, police said. Henderson continued to attempt to have the arresting officer drop charges by asking him to call the Broadview mayor and his brother-in-law, according to the release. Police said they never verified whether Henderson's brother-in-law was a Chicago police officer. Felony DUI arrests are becoming a common occurrence lately, Police Chief Tom Weitzel said in the news release. "Mr. Henderson could barely stand," the chief said. "He was stumbling and losing his balance the entire time he was in police custody as his intoxication level was severe. There is no question he was an extreme danger to other motorists on the roadway."
