RIVERHEAD, NY —Riverhead Town is set to salute its "hometown heroes" with banners highlighting local veterans.
On Friday, Riverhead Town Councilman Ken Rothwell, liaison to the veterans' advisory committee, will join with members of the group, the Riverhead Business Improvement District, and the town board to unveil the banners.
The ceremony will take place at noon in front of 112 West Main Street, or Cucina 25, just west of Roanoke Avenue.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar encouraged Riverhead residents of all ages to attend the event, meant to "honor and celebrate the lives of heroes from our own community".
The banners will be displayed along Main Street during the months of April through June in observance of Memorial Day, and again, during September through November, in observance of Veteran's Day.
"I look forward to continuing to work with the veteran's advisory committee toproperly honor and assist our local servicemen and servicewomen," Rothwell said.
Banners are still available through sponsorship. Applications can be found on theRiverhead Town website, or on the Riverhead BID website here.
