Opinion -what amount would be a good enough for retirement?

I just want to see what amount would be good enough if I decide to retire around late 40's. I know it all could be case by case situation. Depending on what kind of life style you want to maintain. BUT I'm just asking in general. You don't have to be specific. Some numbers will make me to start thinking in the right direction lol. That way I can strategies my investment plans. I never thought about these stuff before. Thank you!
