Cal Poly Cat Program is looking for volunteers to join the TNR (trap, neuter, release) team
Since deciding in 2020 to enhance our TNR work this program has been on steroids! Despite the huge impact on our finances, the spay/neutering of 128 feral cats just in the past three months (January-March) has had, we continue to work on curbing the kitten population and bringing down the fatality rate of these precious little souls.
This essential work is being done by CP students, mainly CPCP staff. Somehow between their studies they leave the shelter with traps and treats in tow around 4-5pm and don't return until 10-11pm after targeting feral colonies, mostly in North County. We've been developing a buddy system to pair up volunteers to help keep everyone safe;
The feral population is an on-going concern and clearly we try to assist all parties in dealing with feral cats/kittens. However, we do have restraints both financially and with staffing hours; whenever possible we'd be happy to assist community members who would like to learn how to trap themselves, we can provide training & traps, or offer guidance if you want to become a feral colony caregiver.
If you're interested in becoming a TNR volunteer please reply to this email.
