Indeed, the CRA would not have passed without republican support. I still don't see where anyone, including myself, has refuted that.
But (assuming the insinuation is claiming moral high ground of republicans over dems), you're still projecting the past onto the present and the present onto the past. Right now, America is very divided along political party lines. In the past, the division has been along different lines. South vs North, Pro-war vs anti-war, pro vs anti segregation, and likely many others. You may note that some prominent civil rights leaders, including MLK, did not side with republicans or democrats, (correctly, IMO) seeing flaws in both parties and in partisan politics at large. One would think if it were such a clear cut issue, that he would have publicly endorsed one party or another - but he did not.
What drives me nuts is when people filter every input that goes into their head through their hyperpartisan biases. Imagine how much better off we would be if we didn't have to stop to think "does this solution to the problem agree with my politics?" before proceeding. The real answer is that "free market" and "public" projects both have their place, and neither political party has a moral high ground. The answer is always "it depends". But, I guess you can't unlearn a lifetime of thinking a certain way. Still fun to watch brains break when you ask people to try.
