SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott will be on the lookout for a new assistant town administrator after Ron Mendes announced he is leaving the post after working for the town for seven years. The town said Mendes is leaving for a "very impressive new position in the city of Newton" where he served as the city's Department of Public Works business director from 2012 to 2014. "This is a loss for Swampscott but it is exciting to see someone of Ron's caliber advancing his career in such an impressive way," said a post on the town's official social media page. "We are grateful for all of his contributions and his friendship to Swampscott. In life, we must celebrate successful conclusions and bold new beginnings." Mendes, who was the town treasurer and collector in Wilmington from 2000 to 2008 before entering the private sector for four years, came to Swampscott as the treasurer and collector in 2014 before becoming the assistant town administrator in 2017.
