HMAAC Movies at Sunset is back! We’re excited to open with the Houston premiere of ARRAYS IN OUR MOTHERS’ GARDENS. HMAAC Movies at Sunset is back! We’re excited to open with the Houston premiere of ARRAYS IN OUR MOTHERS’ GARDENS directed by NOLA native Shantrelle P. Lewis. IN OUR MOTHERS’ GARDENS celebrates the strength and resiliency of Black women and Black families through the complex, and oftentimes humorous, relationship between mothers and daughters. The documentary film pays homage to Black maternal ancestors while examining the immediate and critical importance of self-care, and the healing tools necessary for Black communities to thrive. Featured interviews include: #MeToo founder Tarana Burke; The Roots and Chris Rock tour manager Tina Farris; cultural critic Dr. Brittney Cooper of Rutgers University; Rev. Dr. Theresa S. Thames of Princeton University; holistic lifestyle maven Latham Thomas; photographer Adama Delphine Fawundu and NPR’s Senior Director for Programming Yolanda Sangweni. The gates open at 8:00 pm. The movie starts at 8:30 pm. How to enjoy HMAAC Movies at Sunset: 1. Admission is $10 per vehicle. Print your ticket or have it visible on your cell phone, and present your ticket at the parking lot entrance. 2. If you don't have a ticket, you will NOT be allowed on the lot unless space remains after the movie begins. 3. No refunds on ticket purchases unless the movie is canceled. Will there be food or drinks available for purchase? There will be NO food or beverages for sale on-site due to COVID-19. Please bring your own food and beverage to enjoy. How do we hear the movie? Our audio is broadcast via FM transmission, so you do need a working radio in your vehicle or a battery-powered portable unit. HMAAC personnel will let you know what station to tune your radio to, once you are on-site. Can we bring lawn chairs? Yes, but you must have your chairs either directly in front of or behind your vehicle. Thanks and enjoy the show!
