Melrose Police Host 'Drug Take Back' Day This Weekend

MELROSE, MA — The police department is once again participating in National Drug Take Back Day this weekend. Local police departments work with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration twice a year for Take Back Day. This one is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Anyone in Melrose can drop off expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs at the police station on West Foster Street. The event is free and there will be no questions asked. Residents can drop off pills or patches, but no liquids or needles. The event is to combat community substance abuse. There is also a take-back box in the police station lobby on a permanent basis. "It is dangerous to store old prescription medication in the house because it can potentially fall into the hands of a loved one struggling with substance use," said Chief Mike Lyle. "This biannual initiative helps to make sure that this doesn't happen and that all unwanted drugs are properly thrown away." Read more information here.
