TOP SHELF JAZZ SERIES with serious musicians. LORETTA GOODEN has travelled the country performing gospel, rock, rhythm & blues and JAZZ! Word. A Cafe's FRIDAY NIGHTS TOP SHELF JAZZ SERIES 6 pm to 8 pm Word hosts a stellar lineup of local and touring professionals co-sponsored by Jazz In The Neighborhood, a Bay Area nonprofit that allows us to put on first-rate shows while treating musicians like the working pros they are. No cover, and no tipping. We do ask for a $10-20 donation, and 2-drink minimum during performances, to support the program. Musicians are paid a guaranteed fair wage. (No one turned away for lack of funds. Word. A cafe, 6-8 pm, at 5114 Third St, Bayview in San Francisco.) April 23: LORETTA GOODEN, jazz vocalist. Her roots are gospel, having toured the country with her family. She then joined Bruce Willis' houseband, The Accelerators, in Sun Valley, ID. Later, she returned to her hometown SF and joined the Jerry Garcia Band. Ms. Gooden's classic repertoire is impressive, as are her voice and presence. Come share some time with Ms. Gooden at Word. He brings Smith Dobson on drums and Alex Farrel on bass. May 7: SIMON ROWE Organ Trio featuring Lyle Link on saxophone, Sylvia Cuenca on drums and Simon Rowe on Hammond organ. May 14: DWAYNE CHARLES PROJECT. Bayview's own favorite band leader. Rhythm and Blues/Funk/Open Mic.  You never know what fabulous musicians are gonna show up for the open mic, but show up they do and it's a real treat.  So, you show up every Saturday and you'll be sure to catch the fun.
