Description
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A weekend traffic stop in New Rochelle for suspicious temporary tags on a vehicle led to weapon, drug possession, forgery and child endangerment charges.
Kevin Lopez of Mamaroneck was pulled over Friday evening on Division Street for displaying what officers believed to be a forged temporary tag on his vehicle. It turns out registration issues were soon the least of the 35-year-old's troubles.
After being arrested on charges related to the suspect temporary tag and driving with a suspended license, police say they found a loaded gun in the car. In addition to the Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun under the driver's seat, officers reported finding cocaine in the center console.
Lopez is now facing charges of possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license.
He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Details about the minor related to this charge have not yet been released by authorities.
