TAMPA, FL — A 30-year-old Tampa man has been charged with manslaughter while driving under the influence after being accused of causing an accident that killed a motorcyclist Feb. 3.
On Wednesday, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies arrested Laramie Vantreeck in connection with an accident that occurred in the parking lot of The Preserve at Mobbly Bay Apartments in the 8000 block of Solano Bay Loop in Tampa.
Detectives said Vantreeck was driving west on Solano Bay Loop when he turned in front of a motorcycle that was traveling east. The motorcyclist got caught under Vantreeck's black 2016 Dodge Ram. Vantreeck continued turning into the parking lot until a witness yelled at him to stop.
The motorcyclist was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa where he died. Deputies conducted a field sobriety test on Vantreek that showed he was impaired. A test later confirmed he had a blood-alcohol content level of 0.149 percent. Under Florida law, .08 percent is considered legally intoxicated.
"It is extremely disappointing to learn the circumstances that led to this motorcyclist's death," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We lost a member of our community due to one man's recklessness and disregard for the lives around him. May this serve as a grim warning to others of the dangers of drunk driving, the permanency of a life taken, and the grave legal consequences that will ensue."
Hillsborough SheriffLaramie Vantreeck was charged with DUI manslaughter.
