KIRKLAND, WA — The city of Kirkland is searching for residents to serve on several advisory boards, which are tasked with developing ideas, engaging the public, analyzing issues, and making recommendations on various city projects and policies. According to Kirkland Mayor Penny Sweet, serving on a board is an essential way for community members to have a direct impact on their community and the city's future. "Serving on a board to commission can be a fascinating and rewarding experience," Sweet said. "Diverse voices are needed and valued to advise the City Council on significant topics for the community including parks, tourism, transportation, planning, and design review." Nine boards and commissions have several vacancies, including three that also have slots designated for youth members. Here is the list of boards seeking applicants: Cultural Arts Commission Design Review Board Human Services Commission Library Board Park Board Planning Commission Salary Commission Transportation Commission Tourism Development Committee Youth-specific openings: Cultural Arts CommissionHuman Services CommissionPark Board According to the city, most of the boards hold evening meetings on a monthly basis. Those interested in applying can visit the city's recruitment page or call the City Clerk at 425-587-3109. Virtual interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 24 - 25.
