Former Microsoft Executive Launches Beverly Tech Startup Company

BEVERLY, MA — The former chief software architect at Microsoft is launching a new high-tech startup at the Dunham Ridge business campus. Ray Ozzie, who created the Lotus Notes application in the 1980s and later worked at Bill Gates' software chief, will operate the new company out of a 4,700 square-foot office space at the Cummings Properties-operated office park. Blues Wireless offers a tool to bring products ranging from refrigerators to water-quality monitors online using an embedded Notecard microchip that connects to the AT&T cellular network. Because it does not use a more traditional wireless connection, the connection is more stable and allows users to control and monitor the product from anywhere. "Dunham Ridge had the mix of engineering and general workspace that we were looking for, with an easy commute to Boston," Ozzie said in a release. "Cummings took the time to understand the nature of what we needed, and was very flexible. "It's a great space." Cummings Properties business development officer Michelle Paul worked with Ozzie to bring the company to Beverly. "The North Shore continues to attract innovative companies across the technology and science sectors," said Cummings Vice President Steve Drohosky. "Ray Ozzie's decision to expand his new firm's Copley Place operation with an additional facility at Dunham Ridge is a testament to the region's appeal for major players in the Boston business community."
