BEVERLY, MA — Beverly is asking all residents and travelers to the city to "check twice" for motorcyclists in honor of a store owner who was killed in a crash last November.
Mayor Mike Cahill issued a proclamation last week calling a "Motorcycle Awareness Period" from March 21 through April 30. The proclamation urges all citizens to watch out for motorcycles at a time of year when 165,000 registered bikes nationwide — including 900 in Beverly — return to the road.
The proclamation was made in honor of Mark Ofiesh, the longtime owner of Gloria Food Stores killed in a bike crash last November.
Cahill presented the proclamation last week to Caitlyn Ofiesh, Mark's daughter, along with Brenda, her mother, Rob Cerundolo, owner of Cycles 128 in Beverly, and Paul W. Cote of the Bikers Helping Bikers Motorcyclists Survivors' fund.
