HARLEM, NY — A man was hit and killed Monday by a driver pulling a truck out of a Harlem building, police said. Around 7:13 p.m., police responded to a 911 call about a person being struck by a car on West 144th Street, west of Frederick Douglass Boulevard. They found the victim, a 39-year-old man, lying unconscious on the ground with trauma to the head. He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police determined that the crash happened while a 48-year-old man was backing up the tractor-trailer from an off-street interior loading dock on the north side of West 144th Street — the site of a loading area for the Super Foodtown supermarket. The truck hit the victim, who had been standing between the truck and an adjacent parked trailer, police said. The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene. An investigation is ongoing and the victim's name is being withheld pending family notification, police said.
