Description
WEST SPRINGFIELD, VA — A portion of Rolling Road in West Springfield will have lane closures for a traffic shift Tuesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Lane closures will impact northbound and southbound Rolling Road between Kenwood Avenue and Old Keene Mill Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20. At least one lane in each direction will remain open on Rolling Road.
VDOT will be implementing a temporary traffic shift for improvements at the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection. Southbound Rolling Road traffic between Old Keene Mill Road and Kenwood Avenue will be shifted to the left to allow for reconstruction of the southbound side of Rolling Road.
The intersection improvements will also include adding a second left-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to westbound Old Keene Mill Road, adding a dedicated right-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to eastbound Old Keene Mill Road, upgrading the traffic signal, and improving the intersection alignment.
Work is weather dependent. Intersection improvements are expected to be complete later in 2021.
A Rolling Road widening project from two to four lanes between Viola Street and Old Keene Mill Road is also in design. Rolling Road widening construction could begin in 2024. For more information, visit the project website.
