Press release from the City of San Antonio: April 15, 2021 Councilwoman Cabello Havrda's Statement on Council's Decision on Alamo Plaza Redevelopment Plan CONTACT: Lexi Bachran, (210) 643-6219 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (April 15, 2021) – During A Session, City Council voted on a revised Alamo Plaza redevelopment plan which amended the lease agreement between the city and the Texas General Land Office. Councilwoman Cabello Havrda issued the following remarks: "Many hours of work have been devoted to this plan and ensuring that it preserves and respects the history of this significant historical landmark and nearby icon of desegregation, the Woolworth Building. I want to thank and acknowledge all of those who have contributed many hours to fostering compromise and building consensus towards a plan which resonates with the stakeholder feedback received from our community. Special thanks to the volunteers of the Alamo board, in particular, Matthew Duncan, the District 6 appointee for their hard work and dedication to moving this project forward. The Alamo is more than an attraction, it is part of the very fabric of San Antonio. As a native daughter, I am happy to hear the parade route I once marched as a member of the Taft Raider band will continue to be part of the experiences of students for generations to come. Today's decision will ensure that these sacred grounds continue to serve as a source of inspiration and are preserved with the reverence and dignity they deserve."
