Description
Press release from Plano Independent School District:
April 15, 2021
Plano ISD student artists participate annually in creating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) art. The district focuses on developing the whole child through SEL, and within the visual arts department, teachers use the creative process as a vehicle to help students learn ways to express their emotions in productive and meaningful ways.
The K-12 visual arts curriculum explores big ideas within the curriculum that relate to creative processes, skills and expression of emotions.
At the elementary level, student SEL art focuses on five big ideas: kindness, empathy, persistence, social awareness and self-management. Middle school (grades six to eight) SEL art emphasis is on six big ideas adding resilience to the elementary list and at the high school (grades nine through twelve) level the big ideas include: kindness, empathy, persistence, relationship building, inner strength and connections.
