Press release from Connecticut Community Foundation: April 20, 2021 Record-breaking generosity has been the hallmark of Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills, and that is just what many local nonprofits need right now, having faced economic challenges over the past year just as they have been meeting extraordinary needs in the community. On April 20 and 21, Connecticut Community Foundation will again host Give Local, a 36-hour online giving event through which individual donors can support over 250 local charities serving the region. Ion Bank Foundation is again leading the business community's support, serving as the presenting sponsor for the ninth consecutive year. "For most nonprofits, 2020 created unprecedented challenges. Organizations saw increased demand for important services, and had to find new – and sometimes costly – ways to do their important work. At the same time, many faced financial challenges due to lost program revenues and an inability to raise funds in person. As we begin to see the recovery on the horizon, these organizations – which have stepped up for the community again and again throughout the past year – need our support more than ever to emerge from the pandemic strong," said Julie Loughran, president and CEO of Connecticut Community Foundation. Since 2013, donors have contributed over $9 million to area nonprofits through Give Local. In 2020, more than 6,400 online gifts meant $1.8 million for 250 participating nonprofits. Donations supported efforts to feed people facing food insecurity, support youth, protect natural resources, provide access to healthcare, offer art and cultural opportunities, and much more. Beginning at 7 a.m. on April 20 and ending at 7 p.m. on April 21, all donations made to participating organizations through Give Local the website, www.GiveLocalCCF.org, will be boosted with nearly $140, 000 in bonus funds contributed by Connecticut Community Foundation, local business and individual sponsors. Nonprofits can also compete for over $40,000 more in cash prizes. Give Local Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills channels flexible, unrestricted revenue to participating nonprofits serving the region—the kind of funding most needed now as organizations work to rebuild after a challenging year. With unrestricted resources, organizations have the freedom to apply the dollars they raise through Give Local most effectively to meet pressing community needs—no strings attached.
