Description
GREENBELT, MD — Police said a pedestrian died while trying to walk across the Capital Beltway late Wednesday night. Officers noted that a beige Toyota van hit the man on northbound Interstate 495 at Greenbelt's exit for Kenilworth Avenue.
Medics pronounced the victim dead on the scene and took him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, an incident report explained. Police have not yet identified the victim. Troopers are waiting to notify his family first.
Police don't know why the victim was trying to cross the highway. The press release mentioned that he was wearing a dark green camouflage sweatshirt, dark blue pants and a black face mask. The victim was not wearing any reflective clothing, the write-up added.
Officers indicated that the 40-year-old female driver from Hyattsville was not impaired during the accident. Troopers advised that they found the motorist, the victim and a witness at the site of the crash.
The Maryland State Police are still investigating.
