MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Earlier this week, New Jersey decided to pause the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines. This came after the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended a pause in the use of the vaccine because of blood-clot concerns. At a press conference, Gov. Phil Murphy said the "J&J vaccine appointments will be canceled or put on hold at all New Jersey vaccination sites until further notice." "The New Jersey Department of Health will work with all vaccination sites to make arrangements for the administration of an alternative 2-dose vaccine." The Princeton Health Department received 100 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine on Monday. They decided to pospone all vaccination clincs until further notice. Meanwhile, chain pharmacies including CVS, Walgreens and Wegmans have paused the use of the vaccine. Murphy however said that the overall goal of vaccinating 4.7 million adult New Jersey residents by the end of June still remains entirely achievable, despite the pause. As of Friday, a total of 231,054 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Mercer County, of which 150,651 are first doses. A total 94,257 residents have now been fully vaccinated.
