Summary/Objective The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at underground utility construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other skilled workers at the site and company yard. Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in underground utility construction projects; performs manual work in preparing the site for the contracted scope of work. 2. Shovels dirt, concrete, asphalt and various other construction materials into construction areas. 3. Excavates and fills trenches and ditches. 4. Maintains a clean job site: picks up and delivers all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards. 5. Performs materials handling and storage. 6. Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials. 7. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director or supervisor. 8. Has an OSHA 10 minimum. Competencies 1. Communication Proficiency. 2. Competent Person. 3. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects (greater than 20 lbs), walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions (uneven terrain). The employee kneels, crawls, bends, lifts, pushes, pulls and carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. This position frequently requires long hours, weekend work, night work, overtime and requests that the employees remain on-call all hours of the day each day of the week. Benefits 56 hours PTO is earned (1 hour for every 30 hours worked) yearly. After 60 days of employment, the company offers health, dental and vision insurance.
