Newport Holding Coronavirus Vaccine Clinic For BIPOC Residents

NEWPORT, RI — Newport will hold a special coronavirus vaccine clinic Wednesday for black, indigenous and people of color living in the city. The one-day event is part of the state's effort to center equity in vaccine distribution, the city said in a statement. The clinic will be held at the Gateway Visitors Center. Limited appointments are still available throughout the day, from around 11 a.m. to just before 7:30 p.m. Preregistration will be required for the event, but no photo ID will be needed day-of. Residents in need of transportation can reach out to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, which operates a passenger hub outside the visitor's center. The city partnered with several community organizations, including Conexion Latina Newport, the Newport Health Equity Zone, RIPTA and the Department of Health. Appointments can be schedule online.
