Newport Offering Residents 'Dirt Cheap' Compost Bins

NEWPORT, RI — The City of Newport is offering compost bins "dirt cheap," just in time for Earth Week. The first 100 residents to sign up for a free composting webinar will be offered a special discount. The webinar will be held at 7 p.m. April 28. Qualifying residents will be offered bins for just $17.50. Residents who sign up after the first 100 will be offered bins for $35, 410 less than the discounted rate from Rhode Island Resource Recovery. Click here to sign up for the webinar. Composting is a great way to reduce household waste by diverting food scraps from the trash. Eggshells, veggie scraps and other food items can be mixed with grass clippings, leaf litter and other yard waste to create nutrient-rich compost to nourish gardens.
