Description

JOHNSTON, RI—The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced that it has scheduled the removal of the I-295 North lane shift it was using for the Greenville Avenue Bridge Replacement in Johnston. According to RIDOT, on the evening of Tuesday, April 20, northbound lanes will shift off the temporary bridge onto a newly rebuilt bridge. Although this is the final shift in the project, remaining tasks will include removing the temporary bridge, reconstructing the median, and paving on I-295 and part of Greenville Avenue. Overnight closures will be required to remove the temporary bridge and are tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 3 through Wednesday, May 5 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The Greenville Avenue Bridge is 50 years old and carries 78,000 vehicles every day, according to RIDOT. The $16.5 million project to restore the bridge is scheduled to be completed in fall 2022. The replacement of the Greenville Avenue Bridge is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's commitment to modernizing and repairing Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure and promoting economic development. Updates on changes to the construction project schedule and scope can be found at www.ridot.net/RhodeWorks. Information on temporary lane closures and travel advisories related to the project will be available at www.ridot.net/traveladvisories.
