All Paws On Deck: Jersey City Pup Rescued From PATH Escalator

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City dog is counting his luck on both paws and has Port Authority officers to thank after they rescued him from a PATH station escalator. On Wednesday afternoon, Port Authority police officers heard a woman screaming for help in the Journal Square PATH station and heard a "yelping sound" according to Port Authority officials. They found a woman screaming over her dog, Scott, whose paw was caught in the bottom of an escalator. One of the officers, Anthony Manfredini, quickly hit the stop button on the escalator while another officer, Matthew Maiello, called in the Port Authority Emergency Services Unit and maintenance. The claw plate of the escalator was removed and an officer held the dog to keep him calm. Once he was freed, Scott had several lacerations and puncture wounds to his back paw and needed to be checked out by a vet. His owner wasn't sure she could find a ride to the vet, so Sgt. Angel Lopez who was on scene, offered to pay for her taxi to the vet. Scott and his owner accepted the ride and were thankful to the officers.
