WHEATON, IL — Two Glendale Heights residents face drug-induced homicide charges in connection with the April 2020 death of Nicholas Donzelli, 32.
Kalvin Beulle, 31, and Nicole Cassata, 23, both of 0-100 block of Doral Drive in Glendale Heights, have each been charged with one felony count of drug-induced homicide and one felony count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance — cocaine. Additionally, Beulle has been charged with one felony county of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance — fentanyl/amphetamine.
Authorities say on Aug. 3, 2020, Beulle and Cassata sold Donzelli drugs that later tested positive for fentanyl. Donzelli was found dead at a home on Rossini Court on Aug. 3 just before midnight during a well-being check.
"Illicit drug use continues to be a drain on society which was responsible for 112 opioid overdose deaths in DuPage County in 2020, a 17 percent increase from 2019. We must put an end to these senseless deaths," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release about the charges.
Berlin continued, "Fentanyl is an extremely powerful, drug that can kill a first-time user. I would like to thank the Wheaton Police Department, DuMEG and Assistant State's Attorney Adam Frahm for their outstanding collaborative efforts which led to today's charges."
Beulle is currently being held on $100,000 bond and is set to appear in court again May 5. Cassata was taken into custody April 19 and later released on bond. Cassata's next court appearance is set for May 26.
