TINLEY PARK, IL — Kirby School District 140 school board candidates who ran in the April 6 Consolidated Election have finally learned their results. After weeks of waiting, the community has elected all four members of the All-4-KSD140 slate. The quartet included incumbents Carol DeMicheal and Tom Martelli, along with newcomers Luciana Shalash and Aileen Mullee. The slate was endorsed by the Kirby Education Association, former Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki, mayor-elect Micheal Glotz and more. A total of six candidates were in the running, but Kevin McKeown, along with Meagan Doornbos, who ran as a write-in, were not elected. The results of the D140 school board race took longer to appear, as the county needed to total up write-in votes. McKeown is currently the Athletic Director of Consolidated High School District 230's Andrew High School, and has spent over two decades working in education. For the past five years, Doornbos has been serving as the Assistant Principal at Palos South Middle School in District 118. There were 30 precincts and 11,298 votes counted for in the school board race. Below are the vote totals each candidate received: Carol De Micheal — 2,654 votes Aileen Mullee — 2,491 votes Luciana Shalash — 2,128 votes Thomas Martelli — 2,325 votes Kevin McKeown — 1,700 votes Meagan Doornbos — 338 votes Doornbos shared a statement on Facebook to her supporters after the results were shared. "I learned so much throughout this entire process and put myself out there in ways I never thought I would. Thank you to all of the amazing educators who provided testimonial videos or statements on my behalf," Doornbos said, going on to thank her opponents and others who believed in her. "Until the next board meeting..." The Kirby School District 140 school board oversees John A. Bannes, Fernway Park, Helen Keller, Christa McAuliffe, Millennium, Virgil I. Grissom and Prairie View schools. The new board will be sworn in this May. Like what you're reading? Invite a friend to subscribe to free Tinley Park Patch newsletters and real-time email alerts.
