FREEHOLD, NJ - Two seats are up for grabs on the Freehold Borough Council this year, and two Democratic incumbents have filed for a place on the November ballot. Sharon Shutzer and Annette Jordan, both who currently serve on the seven-member council, are running for re-election. No Republican candidates filed for candidacy this year, according to the municipal clerk. Shutzer is a 50-year resident of Freehold Borough and a former language arts teacher. She was named three times to the "Who's Who Among American Educators" and twice named "Teacher of the Year" in the NJ Governor's Teacher of the Year Program, according to her profile on freeholdborodems.org. Shutzer also served as a member of the Freehold Borough Board of Education in the 1970s and 1980s prior to first serving on the borough council in 1992. Jordan, a former youth soccer and baseball coach and borough resident for over 30 years, is currently completing her first term on the borough council. She has served on the Freehold Borough Board of Education (including six years as president). She also volunteers for the Freehold Food Safety Committee, Freehold Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse, Neighborhood Connections to Health, CASA Freehold, as well as the Olde Freehold Day and Spooktacular town festivals.
