Description
CHICAGO — A Skokie boy who was shot 18 months ago died last week from complications of his injuries, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Carys Castillo, 16, died Friday at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, according to the medical examiner's office, which ruled his death a homicide.
On Sept. 28, 2019, Castillo, then 15, was wounded by a shotgun in an apartment 200 block of Longwood Terrace in Mundelein and rushed to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where his condition was stabilized, according to the medical examiner and reports from the time.
At the time, police said witnesses gave conflicting statements. Investigators later determined the shooting took place at the apartment and the people who reported the shooting still had the gun.
Another 15-year-old boy was charged the next day with reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. The juvenile court records of that case are sealed.
