MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County narrowly missed a move to the less restrictive yellow tier as spring breakers moved the needle in the wrong direction, The San Francisco Chronicle reports. Boasting one of the nation's highest vaccination rates and one of the state's lowest infection rates, Marin hoped to become the first Bay Area county to move to the less restrictive tier of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Under the yellow tier gyms and indoor dining could expand from 25 percent to 50 percent, live events with assigned seating could expand to 67 percent and bars could reopen to 25 percent, NBC Bay Area reports. Marin County Health Officer Dr. Matt Willis attributed the state's decision to keep Marin in the orange tier to spring break travelers that led to a coronavirus case uptick in the last week, The Chronicle reports. "We're clearly not ready to move forward," Willis told The Chronicle. "It is in our hands and the cases — we're so close to the border between orange and yellow that even just a few cases matter ,and we had an uptick in cases during the week that ends April 10 related to people who traveled outside of the county and got tested after spring break."
