Shipping Associate, Bilingual Spanish Hourly, non-exempt position $18-20/hour, 1 day/week, total of 8 hours/week, with possibility for additional fill-in shifts OVERVIEW NEXT Distro/nextdistro.org works to provide online and mail-based harm reduction resources to people who cannot access in-person syringe exchange program services. NEXT mails naloxone, syringes, fentanyl test strips, safer smoking supplies, safer sex supplies, and other harm reduction materials to program participants across California. The Shipping Associate position will work in conjunction with the Program Associate and under supervision of the California State Director to supplement our current operations by performing supply packing and shipping functions one day per week -- preferably Mondays or Fridays though there is some potential for flexibility. This position will ideally also fill in for the role of the Program Associate on an as-needs basis on sick days (if the Shipping Associate is available on short notice), and on planned vacation days. Thus, this position is ideal for someone who is occasionally available on a short notice basis and would benefit from supplemental income. This position requires ability to manage incoming orders using an.xls spreadsheet with multiple interconnected functions (multiple tabs, comment/note function, etc), to accurately record outgoing supplies and shipments, to collaborate with other staff members to solve problems, and to prepare specific supplies for shipment in a sterile environment. Additionally, this position requires Spanish language capabilities in order to compose hand-written personalized notes to our participants for whom Spanish is their primary language. Our physical space provides social distancing capability. N95-grade masks will be provided and worn at all times in the workspace throughout the duration of the pandemic. This position qualifies for COVID vaccination under the current roll out if desired. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Support the bulk preparation and inventory of harm reduction supplies and overdose reversal supplies Manage supply order requests through an online spreadsheet based system, this will include some critical thinking/problem solving Prepare and pack shipments including writing personalized messages, occasionally in Spanish Maintain accurate record-keeping related to supplies mailed This position works in support of the Program Associate who fills the above role on a full-time basis. Work will be done both collaboratively and independently REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Commitment to supporting people who use drugs through harm reduction strategies Reliable and trustworthy, ability to effectively communicate verbally and through phone/email Attention to detail, ability to accurately pack customized packages of a variety of unique supplies Able to use email, online search engines; ability to organize information using spreadsheets, will provide training for the right candidate Legible print handwriting, reasonably good spelling, written English and Spanish language competency Ability to problem solve and know when to ask for support and guidance Regularly stand and walk, must be able to comfortably lift up to 25lbs regularly throughout shift, complete repetitive movements Preferably have a driver's license with an insured vehicle to drop packages off at the post office (we reimburse for mileage) or must be physically capable of walking many packages to the post office with the use of a wheeled cart (0.8 miles round trip on flat terrain from NEXT office to post office and back).
