San Diego Border Patrol Agents Rescue 4 Lost Migrants

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued four people early Monday, including an unaccompanied pregnant teenager, near Tecate Peak in San Diego County. Authorities received a report around 1 a.m. of four lost migrants near the mountain, which is about a half-mile north of the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the Border Patrol's San Diego-area office. Agents found all four people in good health, including a pregnant 15-year-old. In addition to the girl, there was also a 16-year-old unaccompanied boy, a 19-year-old man and a 38-year-old man. "Further questioning the group, agents determined all four people were Mexican nationals in the United States illegally," Border Patrol spokesperson Shane Crottie said. "The migrants stated they had been instructed by smugglers to hike north to the next highway after they illegally crossed the border. After hiking for hours, they became lost in the dark, mountainous terrain." The migrants were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station for further medical evaluation and processing. "Our agents go to great lengths to help others," Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said. "If not for their grit and selflessness, this situation could have ended much worse."
